I-CON: A Multi-Channel Approach to Packaging

The Digital Packaging market is a huge growth area for brands, retailers and businesses involved in packaging production. Digital Packaging can affect every touchpoint of the packaging workflow, from creative design and marketing to manufacture and fulfilment; offering flexibility and creativity but also numerous challenges that creative agencies, digital agencies and packaging manufacturers are working to overcome.

The I-CON business launched in 2017. As Integration Consultants the I-CON team provides services from consultation to the development and delivery of a complete solution, with a particular focus on the challenges faced when implementing campaigns that feature Digital Packaging and connective technologies. The team facilitate projects that capitalise on the use of digital technologies integrated with the complete spectrum of packaging formats.

“We are currently working on a range of projects with medium and large-scale brands that rely on our skills and experiences developed over many years, working closely with similar organisations on a variety of challenging projects; typically the more innovative a project the more challenges there are to overcome and as a solution provider that’s what the I-CON business thrives on”
Comments Kevin Laughton, Co-Founder and Consultant at I-CON, and Vice Chairman of The Packaging Society, a Division of IOM3.

The I-CON business is a unique partnership that connects packaging and strategic marketing expertise to offer a solution driven service, integrating expert partners to deliver projects. The business is able to scale to facilitate projects due to a dynamic, global network, formed over a 30 year heritage as part of the creative, packaging industry.

The I-CON network provides access to the very best suppliers, helping to control costs and avoid issues associated with creative, production and distribution services throughout the Digital Packaging workflow.

“We are involved in the development of bespoke, workflow solutions which means connecting with flexible partners, willing to explore and build new ideas. As an independent business we are not affiliated with any particular supplier or technology. We find the perfect solution to fit our customers needs rather than forcing a supplier or technology into the workflow.” Adds Kevin.

From creative ideation to strategic planning, packaging development and supply chain solutions, the I-CON team initiate projects with the complete workflow in mind; reducing time and spend, and increasing launch success rates.

“We glue the workflow together, understanding and overcoming any issues, and finding partners to fill any skill gaps that may impact a project.” Comments Lauren Whittaker, Co-Founder and Consultant at I-CON.

The I-CON business has launched strongly, already developing a secondary division focused on the power of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology for packaging, point-of-sale and retail environments.

“As we explored the Digital Packaging marketplace with our customers and partners, it became increasingly clear that NFC will play a huge role in the integration of packaging and digital marketing over the next year.

We have setup a complete structure to enable the manufacture of NFC connected products and packaging, from the design and production of packaging to the creative development of linked digital platforms and campaigns, our complete workflow enables brands to integrate NFC into their products and marketing materials.” Explains Lauren.

The I-CON team are closely connected to The Packaging Society, a division of IOM3 and will be available to offer advice and guidance regarding Digital Packaging as part of The Packaging Society, Packaging Clinic at the upcoming Packaging Innovations event, being held at Birmingham NEC, 28th February and 1st March 2018.
