Community Connection and Opportunity at C4DI’s Bi-Monthly Virtual Networking Event

In May, we launched our Community Networking Platform as a way for members to stay connected during the UK lockdown.

The aim was to learn more about the businesses within C4DI while establishing mutual partnerships and providing assistance to those who needed it.

Since then, we’ve been running sessions every other week via Zoom, encouraging collaboration and connection.

“Unlike some networking events, there are no penalties, no microwaved bacon sandwiches and no 6AM meetings,” Jacob Blakey, Director of Business Development at Blink who first suggested the idea and who has been a big part of the energy and drive behind it.

“This is a group for genuine collaboration and for individuals who love what they do.”

Usually, the format includes a short introduction, followed by each attendee spending around two and a half minutes to talk around a topic. This could include discussing your business, a service you could provide to help out another member, a current project you’re working on, interesting piece of news, or even a problem you’re trying to overcome.

New member and graphic and web designer, Leon Peak has found the sessions really beneficial during the pandemic:

“After becoming a member of C4DI during the lockdown, I was eager to start networking but realised my options were limited due to everyone working from home. However, since Louise introduced me to the Community Networking sessions, it’s been a whirlwind,” he explains.

“The welcome I’ve received has been fantastic and has really boosted my confidence. Everyone has been so attentive and made me feel valuable. From my very first call, I began working with companies, such as Echo Digital Creative, Blink and MediMusic, so from a business standpoint you can’t afford to miss it.”

Gary Jones, another new community member and Director of MediMusic has also been able to get to know other members while in lockdown.

“As a newbie who didn’t know anyone not only do the sessions act as a great introducer they also give some insight into the business skills within C4DI. As a result I am working with Vicky Parkinson, David Catley, Matt Johnson, Leon Peake, Tim Goodfellow and Blink,” he tells us.

“Unquestionably, the best outcome so far has been the result of an introduction to Lancashire NHS Trust made by the wonderful Deb at Barclays. As a result, we are in discussion with them about two trials in Q4 of this year and currently have another going through Ethics approval with an imminent start date.”

Meanwhile, long-time C4DI member Steve Axiotes from Echo Digital Creative has also enjoyed catching up with the rest of the community:

“The group have really gelled. For me personally, I’ve made some great new connections and started work on some projects with other members.”

The next Community Networking session is Wednesday 2 September. It’s free for C4DI members to join in. Simply sign up below.
