C4DI-Based Educational Platform Bags Best Digital Startup 2018

This year’s Hull Digital Awards celebrated so many innovative tech projects and startups, and we’re proud to say that many of them are based in our very own building.

Good2Learn bagged Best Digital Startup for their pioneering educational platform that aims to bridge the gap between classroom and home learning.

We caught up with founder Paul Mandalia to find out more about their success since launching in spring this year.

“Since around the beginning of 2016, I’ve been working with several members of C4DI and Hull’s digital community to develop Good2Learn,” Paul enthuses.

“So, we’re thrilled to receive the Best Digital Startup Award and very proud of the team, who has been working tirelessly behind the scenes. I’d also like to thank the team at C4DI for their continued support and all the schools we are collaborating with.”

The idea for Good2Learn was born out of the frustration felt by parents and children when it came to completing homework tasks.

“The way we teach children today has completely changed since mums and dads were at school. This leads to many parents not being able to understand the assignments or confusing children with ‘old school’ methods that are no longer on the current curriculum,” Paul explains.

With Good2Learn, children log on to their personal account and can view video lessons that have been written and designed by trained educationalists.

“We’ve worked with engaging presenters to deliver each maths and English lesson, combining live video with vibrant animations to further explain topics.”

For Paul, going digital to support children outside of the classroom was a natural step:

“Children and parents can access the platform via their mobile phones and devices and this removes a lot of the barriers teachers come up against when trying to encourage young people to study outside of school hours,” Paul tells us.

“By using digital technology, we are able to continue to develop a better learning experience for our users, capturing vital data to update parents instantly on their child’s achievements and areas they may need to work on.”

It’s safe to say that Good2Learn has had a pretty incredible summer, visiting schools across the UK and being nationally-recognised by NewTek after winning their award for Best E-Learning UK Content earlier this year.

The EdTech platform is now attracting schools across the UK and Paul and the rest of the team are extremely excited for the future.
