Barclays Eagle Lab Manager Edwin Turay has recently joined our community, supporting Ecosystem Manager David Summerbell.
Edwin is based in the building Thursday and Friday each week and is on hand to help members connect with other Eagle Labs members, as well as offer guidance on finance, funding opportunities and business growth.
Born and bred in Hull, Edwin has seen the city’s transformation over the last few decades.
“I’ve always had a keen interest in technology, so I’m thrilled to join C4DI and help its members network and grow,” he tells us.
“Hull has been leading the way in technology for a long time, and it’s brilliant to see my home town’s tech hub go from strength-to-strength during the past five years.”
Clearly proud of his roots, Edwin explains that his father was originally from Freetown, Sierra Leone, before moving across to Hull to work in the shipbuilding industry.
“A little-known fact is that the fellow port city is actually twinned with Hull,” he adds.
Alongside spending time with his three children and partner Ellie, Edwin is also interested in personal development.
“I am very enthusiastic about personal development, of myself and others, so I know this is going to be a large part in my role at C4DI,” Edwin says.
“I personally love are Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, which explores why people like Bill Gates are so successful. I’d also recommend Sapiens and Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Harari – they both look at human evolution and also what the future of humankind may look like, so very relevant for the people in the building who are working with the technology of tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Edwin’s love of a particular football team is another reason the Customer Bank Manager can’t wait to start his new role:
“I’ve already met a few Liverpool supporters in the coworking space – it’s our year,” he laughs.
