THE CHALLENGE | SPOT THAT FIRE!

Build a crowdsourcing tool for citizens to contribute to early detection, verification, tracking, visualization, and notification of wildfires.

This group of Uni students are trying to find and fight fires by pooling together multiple sources including, Twitter, phones and word of mouth and turn this function into a web app.

The guys have developed the idea of using NASA data about forest fires to build their app. They would combine this with local news and updates to show a Google map which included this data.

They have experienced difficulties with this however as it has proven difficult to access a Google Maps function that allows them to do this. The NASA data also takes up to 4 hours to refresh so does not provide the immediacy they were hoping for.
