The Moodbeam hackathon, hosted by Rob Lewis of 54 Degrees North
54 Degrees North are a consulting and product innovation company based in C4DI who recently hosted a Hackathon – an event where teams from many industries compete to come up with innovative new ideas. The event generated many ideas for fellow members, Moodbeam, a startup who produce wearable emotion trackers for children.
What does a Hackathon look like?
The main focus of the hackathon was Doblin Innovation, a theory that highlights 10 different ‘lenses’ for innovation, and that identifying 4 or more lenses should produce the best innovation. The teams competed against each other, spending 20-30 minutes on each lens, before having to compile their ideas into a 3-minute pitch.
Moodbeam could then review all the ideas produced to gather a wide range of valuable, and most importantly, unbiased insights; to help them improve not only their product, but many other aspects of their business.
